Language learning in my opinion requires childlike innocent curiosity to imitate and blindly reproduce.
Once, this process is acknowledged by the language teachers as correct , then slowly, migrates from imitation to copying certain formats verbatim ( it is not an offense).
After all these, when there is enough confidence, one must scrutinise and try to explore the nuances.
Finally, boldly express whatever one wishes in one own way , only at this level, will there be a so- called original style.
Logical questioning and reasoning must come at the last stage. In early stages, it requires, blind imitation , like religious faith.
That's how and why children learn their mother tongue quickly and also the language of their friends for interaction.
This has been a proven process. Otherwise, it is tough to learn. That's why grown ups find it difficult to learn new languages.
Certain aspects in every language will be totally illogical and incorrigibly irrelevant ( as certain practices in religions - but one has to just ignore and move ahead).
For example, French spelling will have illogical letters with multiple , highly complicated rules;
English prepositions are absolute non sense and illogical;
Tamil tenses and phonetics are illogical and erratic.
German and Sanskrit have highly complicated grammar but once one manages to learn them, then, one realises the wonders of logical structures in language ( but really tough for those who know other languages). Whereas, if as a child you learn, Sanskrit or German then learning any other language is jujubi.
Ultimately, grammar and punctuation are taught as some tough rules which are wrong and will hamper frer flow of expression.
One must let a child express and then gradually correct by saying expressing the other way is very nice. Child refers to anyone who learns a new language.
A child cannot , even in its mother tongue, start speaking with correct syntax ( order/ sequence of words) .
For example a Tamil speaking child will just ask ' Amma paal ' or ' Amma venum paal'. ' Amma paal naan'. It may not say at first instance ' Amma ennakku paal venum'.
Basic, sentence and grammar structure , I mean the basics, can be taught to a 13 year old normal child in maximum 20 minutes through any language, they must be made to grasp the basic pattern.
The nuances, they will gradually know how to grasp and chisel.
When someone speaks, it is like music, you can find out whether they are going wrong just by listening what we call in South India as abaswaram. Deviation in pitch, notes, format etc.
