Anyway this is a lesser insult to artists and better ambience than the concerts at kalyana mandapams and temples where vocal concerts were and are popular and all top vocalists in India make more money there and in US Indian community kattu Sadham (and contribution in thattu) get together events than in Sabha concerts.
One cannot afford to remain cocooned in the chambers of self certified classicism or perceived purism and gloat over in the euphoria in a group of mutual admirers.
In certain cultures like the white man's superiority complex and Brahmin's ego centric and ethnocentric outlook which comes up with self complimenting statements like Tanjavur kaveri Thanni's brains or aesthetic sense palaghats perfection as if others don't have or incapable of imbibing or exhibiting such brilliance or talents.
How many in India know Mohamed Rafi, Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar, listened to their singing and like them and how many know Kumar Gandarva, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Pandit Jasraj. In fact, the former popularised Hindustani Ragas, Hindustani Sangeeth and never claimed to be classical musicians or purists.
How many in South know Chembai Bhagavathar and how many know K.J. Yesudas. In fact K.J.Yesudas inspired a whole generation of singers whereas Chembai with all due respects to him would have nurtured a few students.
I think we may do a disservice through unloving criticism of everyone , everywhere for everything they do.
