Whatever opinion one
may have about our honourable PM MODI, at least one thing that no one can question
his ‘national interest’ and
‘prioritising economic development and social welfare’. He has made the
whole world stand up and acknowledge India’s proud ancestry, rich culture and
immense potential as a one of the best ‘democratically governed economic growth
engine’ in the world.
Governance is not a please all or make all earn enterprise. Modern day politics, like every other domain has too many dimensions and multiple dynamics with a onus of regulating, controlling while offering freedom for scrutiny and all these must be done while holding on to some organizational power or position which means almost a tricky balancing act which must also ensure not to prick the delicate sensitivity of any section of the population. If one is a leader of a democratic country with press freedom, then the task of a leader is a combination of both tight rope walking and trapezium artist.
The general public sentiment is a see-saw.
One side is gullible to stereotyped, over generalization which makes sweeping criticisms generating more sensationalism and raw material for headline grabbing narratives.
Other side is doing contextually relevant evaluation, analysis and domain specific observations which may not be sensational. Media manipulates which side the weight has to go.
MSM
must desist from being a froth filler and become a real fourth pillar of the
state. MSM must shed its selective amnesia and collective indifference.
Idea that need to be
emphasized for an ideal India are governance imbued government; policy driven
governance; execution and delivery of policies; economic development as a
result of those executions and delivery; deliveries of policies becoming the
focus of parliamentary debates and discussion; parliament debates not to
be misused to settle political scores; political scores not to be projected
over everything else by main stream media; main stream media learning something known as positive aspects and
contributions by India, Indians and for India; Indians must stop giving
too much of importance to main stream media and instead try to savour and share
all the benefits of positivism through social media; Social media to emerge as
a mass moment to ensure all the above are put in place as a system and that
system will result in positive economic development and social welfare
oriented activities leading to a better India.
Instead of writing sermons by great authors in public
places which Indians use as convenient clichés to block thinking,
debates and discussions, we need to remind them about the pitfalls to be
avoided and basic criteria to be followed when evaluating any political
leader in power.
Pitfalls
We
must desist getting distracted by the following in any situation:-
Mutilating the facts, analysing them with preconceived notions or prejudices,
generalizing the particular and particularizing the general, approaching facts
with unloving criticism or uncritical love, evaluating facts with our pet isms
or philosophies, resorting to statistical justifications, unleashing unworkable
utopia, masking them with logical fallacies, muting them in pleasant jargons, an
giving historical justifications, comprehending with confirmation bias or pre
conceived conclusions, trying to over simplify the complicated and over complicate
the simple factors/aspects, extrapolating with pet ideologies, injecting
indoctrinations, freezing by fear psychosis, camouflaging through catchy slogans and enslaving through
endorsement of populist approvals.
“The
"Original Thought Theory" states that anything anyone can ever say,
has already been said by someone else.”
Evaluation.
Coming to the
aspect of evaluation, how to normally encounter and evaluate any subject or
topic?
It is preferable
to immerse any topic or subject matter, primarily and basically with its intrinsic elements/components/aspects/attributes
intact, into a cauldron
which has a mixture of all these- knowledge based analysis, limited
perception based on frames of reference and scales of observation, skepticism ,
criticism, intellectual scrutiny, compassionate emotionalism, humane socialism,
rational thinking, contextual relevance [ which includes too many components] ,
traditions, practical viability, psychological comfort, aesthetic sensitivity,
scientific scrutiny etc and churn the cauldron without clinging on to any
particular restrictive social, cultural or political or religious identity.
This process
inevitably will bring out lot of outputs. We can exercise our freedom and
sometimes select and choose some of the outputs. Sometimes the outputs will draw
us. Sometimes away from all or any of our intended searches and seeking,
outside the circle of these known paradigms, almost tangentially serendipity
will drag us to an oasis of serene clarity.
At
all costs the intrinsic attributes must be the predominant factor so that
whatever is thrown into the cauldron and however it is churned, the ultimate
output must include those attributes so that evaluation is not
distorted or desperately doctored to fit into any predefined and expected
outcome.
So, what pans out
ultimately depends on various factors and aspects some of which are explainable
within the ken of logical and rational thinking, but some are beyond these.
We can also observe
uneasily how the human intellect polished by a rare faculty [compared to other
species] of conscious awareness, capacity to think, store the knowledge,
retrieve it for reference and so on, is mostly, unwilling to take the risk of
accepting the uncertain; the intellectually undecipherable and the inexplicable
outcomes, even if such acceptance is branded, extolled and promoted as virtues
of humility or modesty.
For example if one
is evaluating music, one must ensure that music quality/musicality as an
intrinsic aspect must be highlighted and then evaluate the other extraneous
factors like who renders it, how it is rendered, who is the composer, what is
the composition, what is the lyrics, how is the acoustic quality, how the
person who is rendering it is dressed, how was the ambiance of the place where
it was rendered etc.
Our PM knows what ideal India as a
Global leader of 21st century needs. He knows what are the main
problems that are hurdles to India’s progress and keeps reiterating the real
purposes.
