We see only what we want to see.

                                          Most often we see only what we want to see.

1. A sort of preconceived filtering mechanism that influences our approach and that's why we fail to observe the totality of anything, anyone or any situation and when our observation itself is partial how can our reasoning and understanding be expected to be perfect.

2. We overcome this short coming or mask it by becoming judgmental and opinionated. So our frames of reference and depth or scale or mode or level of observation impacts our perception or understanding to a very great extent.

3. It is not that it is impossible to observe completely or properly but for that, we must jump out of our in-built conditioning and constraining cages of identity created by various things ideological, regional, linguistic, religious, socio-cultural etc. Attention in observation with intense totality and total intensity coupled with interest and involvement.

4. It is easy to say as a sermon but difficult to implement in reality. However if we make a conscious effect to acquire a childlike innocent curiosity to know and learn; to experience and experiment personally uninfluenced by acquired or borrowed knowledge, ideas and thoughts.

5. This approach cannot come about naturally to any grown up person and grownups won’t adopt this also because this approach does not give the comfort level and a sense of security or confidence that all other approaches backed by our incomplete knowledge, ideas, thoughts etc give.

6. In fact it is like asking someone to use his hands as wings to fly but then new approaches lead to new or different understanding and may bring out discoveries and inventions which afterwards can be embedded on our existing and acquired thoughts, ideas, vocabulary etc to explain.

7. So we must as a first step accept with honesty that all of us are in our own identity cages only the intensity and degree of attachment , willingness, liking for these identities may vary. Then have the humility to accept that other identity cages or space outside these cages may also be equally good or sometimes even could be better. Then embark on a mode with willingness to see other cages and space without identity cages too.

8. “Everything changes as you move through three stages of awareness:
first, that beliefs are the result of conditions;
second, that beliefs are the cause of conditions;
and third, that beliefs are themselves conditions.”
― Eric Micha'el  Leventhal

9. “The beauty and mystery of this world only emerges through affection, attention, interest and compassion . . . open your eyes wide and actually see this world by attending to its colors, details and irony.”

―  Orhan Pamuk.

10. “All of us have our own inner fears, beliefs, opinions. These inner assumptions rule and govern our lives. A suggestion has no power in and of itself. Its power arises from the fact that you accept it mentally.”
― Joseph Murphy, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

11. We must realize that the subconscious mind is the law of action and always expresses what the conscious mind has impressed on it. What we regularly entertain in our mind creates a conception of self. What we conceive ourselves to be, we become.” Grace Speare.
