Identity - Entire gamut of identity's influence and impacts

Identity –its whole gamut

“All of us have our own inner fears, beliefs, opinions. These inner assumptions rule and govern our lives. A suggestion has no power in and of itself. Its power arises from the fact that you accept it mentally.”
― Joseph Murphy, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

We must realize that the subconscious mind is the law of action and always expresses what the conscious mind has impressed on it. What we regularly entertain in our mind creates a conception of self. What we conceive ourselves to be, we become.” Grace Speare.

Peace and Harmony are defined indirectly by wanting too much of same Identity in everyone and everywhere and want of  Tolerance

Poverty alleviation requires a multi-pronged strategy

Poverty alleviation requires NGOs yes Nonchalant/ Natural ways of Generous Offering from our purse, our hearts, our minds, our societies etc not necessarily to be operated only  through funded operations- even the ones without ulterior motives- which mostly resort to  short term remedies in all situations.

Also let us remember that Peace and Harmony are defined indirectly by wanting too much of same Identity in everyone and everywhere and want of  Tolerance

1.     I think basically the issue of poverty involves lot of things which on the whole is a bit complex in structure and therefore more complicated to find any quick fix or universal or homogenized solution.

2.     It is also an issue on which no one can afford to be indifferent even for their own selfish reasons because the presence and absence of poverty obviously manifests through pleasantness or problems for life.

3.     Mere preaching and pep talks may not alleviate poverty but can at least motivate many to work towards alleviating poverty.

4.     Sensationalizing it or subduing it with catchy slogans has not and is not going to offer solutions.

5.     Starting from lack of material resources to uncontrolled population to manipulative politics -which itself involves multiple factors -need to be taken into consideration along with dealing with lobbies which try to make a living out of or make a business out of poverty and who prioritize projecting and subtly perpetuating poverty for their own survival or identity.

6.     Any proposal/project/plan of poverty alleviation has to take into consideration the following aspects as well i.e. the situation/context and the intensity or degree of poverty.

7.     So along with compassion comprehensive action plan has to be put in place without any hidden agenda or ulterior motive, the two predominant factors of most funded ventures in the name of poverty alleviation, wherein the poverty alleviation is an incidental happening to achieve a wider or larger or ultimate goal with masked intentions.

8.     Coming to the question of compassion. How can it emerge? Why it has not even surfaced adequately after centuries of preaching by various religions and many good souls. For compassion to emerge we need, in the first place, some sort of education system and then ensure that it is embedded with humane values which are manifested in our daily lives.

9.     We need to create conducive atmosphere for peace and harmony, not a mere verbal pronouncement but as a real situation. Is it possible to have that? If not why?

10.  We must ensure to minimize the negative impact of excessive emphasis on identity orientation in everything starting from religion, culture, region, language, political ideology, economic system etc and a fanatical extension of this leads to less tolerance and lack of compassion.

12.  Recapitulating the issues raised broadly value based education system, dealing with identity without denying it, doing away with institutions and individuals who make a business out of poverty, creating an atmosphere of peace and harmony etc and most of these are inter connected or interrelated.

14.  Identity –its whole gamut

Media created labels let us avoid

Let educated people, especially those active in public life avoid these types of stereotyped surveys, which force us to acclaim certain specific identity when in reality we are not confined and preferably must not get confined to any identity cage- why?

Because labels are used subtly through certain terminological terrorism [like secularism, communalism, saffronization etc ] to lure you to find out your brand of preferred identity.

As a part of humor they are ok but not on any serious ideology.

1.    The word ‘liberal’ and ‘noble’ are the most misused and misunderstood words, if you read History for a United World by Dance you will know.

2.    All these labels are based on the assumption of fixed identities and ideological fixations.

3.     Human psyche/ideas/thought s/perceptions etc like human body also do undergo a process of metamorphosis wherein at some time or other we would have been part of one of these or some of these or all of these.

4.    Even at the same time according to the context we need to change labels like vehicle gears. Communitarian is a distorted term.

5.    All these in practice and application differ very much from definition." Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." and "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries"- Winston Churchill and also read this one http://katecarruthers.com/2005/02/alleged-quote-by-churchill-on-being-a-socialist-or-conservative/.

6.    It is the greatest malady of/sick obsession of the Western psyche to homogenize everything which has been perpetrated on the whole of human perspective of perception by trying to homogenize the beauty and subtle variety in life and categorize into some classification then lead all discussion based on those homogenized classification.

7.    This homogenization mania is carried on all domains If we glimpse through the annals of history, we can observe this and the several ways in which this has been carried out: by indoctrination, by force, by cultural invasions, by wars etc. Throughout history it has failed miserably. Be it the Roman Empire’s greed to spread its tentacles, be it the attempt to homogenize religion which failed with Spanish Inquisition, be it Nazism or Colonialism, all have failed. Once these attempts at homogenizing cultures, beliefs, political ideologies have failed, now, the West is trying it in Trade and Economy.

8.    Now the whole media, including social media resorts to this terminological terrorism whereby certain labels are assigned or appropriated and then they are used as the base to develop the discourse like communalism, secularism, saffronization etc and these are mostly marketed by the greenhorns of red brigade.

9.    Just yesterday I wrote a very long article on people terming saffronization of history and India has no proper account of history but only mythology which is misconstrued as history and people build an edifice on that etc http://contentwriteups.blogspot.in/2015/07/history-and-controversies.html

10. Three  days ago, my friend  Prof. Vaidyanathan [ of IIM Bangalore]  has rightly explained about this terminological terrorism in his excellent lecture at Delhi Vivekananda institute and did write to him my views about that excellent lecture link here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwOFBXoVr3E&feature=share and my comments you can find there and also here http://contentwriteups.blogspot.in/2015/07/terminological-aberrations-and.html

It is Grand Modi leading a Grand nation and not Brand Modi or Brand India

I wish all those writing here to read these links carefully.

Mark my words it is Grand Modi leading a Grand nation and not Brand Modi or Brand India  because both are not products but have grand soul, good intentions , great potential and grand visions.

Kudos to MODI .Yes it is true and he is going about doing some very important things for a country,[ as can be obviously seen by all without being specialist economists or the feigning half baked judge all and know all TV anchors], like India which is:-
1.    Geographically large and susceptible to the vagaries of weather on which not only the economic activity but the very livelihood of the majority of population depends namely, agriculture.

2.    A population which is multi-cultural, multi-religious, multi ethnic, multi- lingual,

3.    Vast majority of this population is habitually used to anarchic behavior,

4.    Essential government services are at the mercy of multiple Babus [starting from a clerk to a Goonda leader to a minister either political, bureaucratic or otherwise influencing everything,

5.    Majority of the population vulnerable to emotional black mailing,

6.    A name sake federal structure which was subjected to pull and push tactics by the central government even on issues of national interest and those in concurrent list for political considerations.

7.    Bunch of academically qualified people who have only worked for short term gains or with next election minding politicians.
8.    To add to some of these inherent and inevitable difficult circumstances and atrocious destructive forces there are also many externally sponsored trouble creators operating under various masks.

9.    There exists alongside a small portion of emotionally charged attention diverting and uncontrollable extreme right wing elements who they have their own agenda which they do not, unfortunately, realize is not the priority for the nation at present.

10.All these combinations are further manipulated and misused by the majority of the most dangerous malign media mafias with their hidden agenda, dictates of their pay masters etc. These popular goons who enjoy popularity and power without any responsibility can magnify minute things and totally mask massive corruption through their selective amnesia, collective indifference, brain washing techniques, sloganeering and many other dirty old tricks.

In this unwelcome and infectious milieu PM MODI is doing the following excellent things which are a great paradigm shift in a short span and are going to be of immense use giving long term benefits, because he knows a country with a great pride of ancestry can only become a hope for the future:-

First putting institutions in place;

Second ensuring efficient, enthusiastic and the most eligible persons at important positions in these institutions who can at least think in the same wave length and attempt to execute appropriate measures with certain amount of integrity and;

Third ensuring the benefits, services etc directly reach the most deserving population through activities like opening bank accounts, doing away with Gas subsidy, social security scheme, making railway stations as business hubs in small villages, and;

Fourth ensuring inter- state interactions at all levels irrespective of political affinities or ideologies.

It is these activities which are no small achievement by any means in any country and, more so, in a country like India with a perennially anti development attitude peddling hostile media and multitude of host of theoretical suggestions giving experts who try hard to criticize every action and try hard to find fault if not invent mistakes to question every action or policy.

Global warming - Science or Scare mongering or Surmises based on simple facts

On the flip side, for half baked people like me getting tossed up by too many and often too conflicting hypothesis with clear convincing justification from different reliable and respectable sources causes more confusion than clarity.

For example I happen to attend three years back a 3 day International Astro science fair with some interesting exhibits and conferences at Coimbatore along with my daughter and it had lectures given by top scientists from NASA the main participant, DRDO, ISRO, BABA atomic research center and TATA observatories etc. We attended some of the programs and lectures.

Some top Indian scientists too accompanied me; in fact I stay only in their houses whenever I go to Coimbatore to brush up some unbiased opinions in science's hot topics.

One NASA scientist, who gave a nice speech with lots of slides, was emphasizing a lot about release of gases from cow dung making a huge impact on environment and adding to global warming. One scientist got up and asked during question hour. "What is the data of population of cow on earth, quantity of cow dung, how it is kept and where or how it is disposed off? Have you measured the gas emanating from them collectively even if all of it were measured? have you ever noticed, researched scientifically more dangerous and damaging gases released for centuries together from decaying flora and fauna from, fortunately still some virginal, areas like some parts of Amazon forests, some in Zaire, even some parts of Western Ghats in India, some areas in Assam and some forest lands in South America etc?" The scientist from NASA just shrugged his shoulders. So, I am also led to believe some parts of what is contained here too, a web site I read on a regular basis.

My contention is that I would not like to succumb to varying degrees of ignorance nor led by predetermined publicity programs masked under the garb of science and marketed with massive jargon, nor can I afford to be indifferent to whatever is happening in nature and happening to nature either as part of evolutionary poetry or perpetrated damage by human greed and need for resources at the expense of so many things. Nor would I like to take any stand on any confirmation bias. However, on observation of nature, at least around me, in the region where I live, I can see massive and marked changes with balding green tops of earth leading to shining concrete structures [I am not saying either right or wrong], visible disappearance of or diminishing quantity of many varieties of vegetables, fruits, birds etc. why the small sparrows which used to line up the window at Chennai have almost disappeared [we are told it is due to mobile phone towers]. Does anyone talk about one species going extinct right in front of our eyes or can anyone do anything about it if at all they can?

Kamal and TMK

Kamal does many things with hidden agenda, ulterior  motives etc. However he is entitled to his view of things.

The only problem is when people like him and TMK resort to misuse platforms which are accessible otherwise only to a few but well received by many for various reasons.

No one is immune to hypocrisies

But these two use them to project and promote ideologically whatever fits into their confirmation bias and the worst part is even that is selectively done.

Humility and Grace

The connect between grace and humility. Not desperation or demand.

Human beings’ unwillingness and uneasiness to have humility

Grace as explained and experienced by some enlightened souls

A.P.J.Abdul Kalam

A.P.J.Abdul Kalam

I remember reading a wonderful book of essays on Mahatma Gandhi when I was in 9th std from a book which I got as a prize in Ramakrishna Mission School. One particular essay always remained etched in my memory and one of the few writers whose name I never forgot because of just two paragraphs he wrote about Gandhi. It was Stephen Hobhouse. The book was ‘The first Mahatma Gandhi Essays and Reflections on his life and works Presented to him on his Seventieth Birthday October 2, 1939 Edited By : S. Radhakrishnan, our former president Dr. S. Radhakrishnan
The essay in all editions of different publishers to my memory has remained on Page 80 [ probably because only by that age we realize the value of certain souls] title of the essay was ‘THE SIGNIFICANCE OF GANDHI FOR THE OUTLOOK OF A CHRISTIAN PACIFIST By Stephen Hobhouse, M.A. (Broxbourne, Herts, England)

“However objective our religion or philosophy may appear to be, each of us human beings who is able to reflect and to aspire has had to construct a world of his own out of materials set before him by the mysterious, unknown environment wherein he finds himself. Within this universe of our consciousness there are certain objects— forces, qualities, ideals, or persons we call them— which stir with a strange and moving attraction the central fibres of our nature, our heart and our reason; and there comes to us in our better moments a constant longing to know them, to love them, to identify ourselves with them more and more completely, ever seeking to liberate ourselves from the trivial and inessential, the unlovely and the impure. Other minds may find much of this central attraction in the creations of human art or even in the subtle correspondences of scientific process. I am one of the many who find it chiefly in the inexpressible wonder and beauty of personality, as imagined in its perfection of life through the best and loveliest men and women who cross our path whether in the flesh or in books, as well as in an indefinable sense of the same personal wonder and beauty breathed upon us from visible nature, in sky and earth and living things, when her moods and ours possess the inner harmony that brings peace. And from these two centres of my highest experience I am inescapably drawn to a faith in that which we call God, to an experiment in discovering and testing an infinite super-personal yet supremely personal and supremely beneficent Being, who is at once the source and the goal of all the separate centres of life and beauty which within and around me strive for liberation and expression. Unhappily, too, I am equally conscious of dark, destructive elements of ugliness and discord, which with an evil activity of their own mar the growth of harmonious life. These forces seem to some extent to be present in external nature, but, inasmuch as the courageous human soul has a marvellous capacity for overcoming or neutralizing the hostility of nature, they are far more dangerous enemies as present within the hearts of men, and within my own heart in particular. Unaided I too often lose faith and am all but helpless before the demonic power of these evil tendencies; and I must turn for aid and liberation to a closer fellowship of spirit with some other personality, human or divine. Providence has ordained that I have been born and bred in a community where past and present have united in confronting me with the historic figure of Jesus Christ, as supremely incarnating the infinite Personality which seems to live at the heart of all that is good and beautiful. Thought and prayer and the influences of a still vigorous tradition, sanctified by the wisdom of antiquity and now, as perhaps never before, becoming purified of alien accretions, have convinced me that this historic person holds a position at the heart of the Godhead and the universe, as no other human figure, no other avatar or incarnation of the Divine can do. The same Spirit lives with a lesser but still splendid pre-eminence in other human personalities, in many doubtless who have left behind them no recorded memory, in some souls whose memory is preserved as the bright and shining lights of our race's history. A fewdark patches indeed there may be on their radiance, but these dim its beneficence but little. I think of them all as messengers and prophets of the eternal Christ, even though some among them would not or could not acknowledge Him as Lord and God. Of these historic light-bearers, one of the greatest of all time, so it seems to me, is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the prophet of ahims-satyagraha. Certainly he is the greatest that has appeared in our own day. The decay of ancient faiths and moralities, the tyranny of the machine, the evil use of applied science made by the misguided industrialists and militarists whose control we support or at least endure, have, in spite of recent revelation of many new and lovely aspects of truth, produced I n world history an unexampled crisis. It is even conceivable that civilization or, since that word is an ambiguous one, orderly, kindly, enlightened human society, as the more fortunate know it to-day, may perish more completely than ever before in the universal confusion and destruction of strife engendered by the lawless selfseeking of human desires and passions. I have sent myself in the essay to try to explain how it is that Gandhi’s great and closely related ideals of ahimsa and satyagraha appear to me to present the only means by which salvation and redemption, healing and true life, can come to the sorely distracted and diseased environment in which we find ourselves.

Concretizing the concepts of value based life, heritage, meaningful education and proper use of science and technology

“Value orientation missing from education system” and

“Alarming gap within developing world has to be bridged”, avers Dr. Karan Singh MP of India. He has once again spoken very sensibly raising certain important issues. Read report of his speech here

These issues are, more frequently, cropping in general discussions in various forums in myriad forms and I too, have been putting forth relentlessly reams of reasons or at least verbal expressions of my observations, thoughts, reactions etc.

Evolution of our species seems to be going through some sort of churning process which makes people in different spheres of activity voice similar concerns.

However, I being a very ordinary person wonder how are we going to inculcate certain inevitable aspects and activities which are going to ensure concretizing the concepts that these scholars visualize and also have been very vocal about like- continuation of certain well cherished and time tested values of wisdom; respect for rich heritage; education geared towards unraveling the meaning of life encompassing knowing, doing, unity and being; science which contributes to humane values in collaboration with other aspects of living etc?

Are there any specific ways, methods, new art or science which have to be introduced to ensure these?  No not necessary.
They have to be part and parcel of our approach, attributes, attitudes and actions of life because what I call UN activities, as most human activities are, wherein U stands for Urge and N stands for Necessity.

The main things that he talks about are:-

1.    Values that have been neglected  we need to find out two things here what we mean by values and how they can be made to be part of our day to day living and he goes on to weave a relevance how it is all the more sad because many  values were very much part of our rich heritage. It they were so, then why and what or who led to the degradation or what are the reasons for that?

2.    Then he goes about talking about education. Again what is education or what are the probable aspects of education? What is the role and responsibilities of all the stakeholders?

3.    He then goes on to portray his ambivalent views on science, as it is for most  people due to the extraordinary predominance in terms of importance given to science over all other domains of human activity.

But we need to honestly and humble observe why it is so. It is because of its overwhelming impact both positive and negative. We need to remember that science is neither a panacea nor should it be projected as a villain. If at all anything science has been a greater contributor to the enhancement of life and civilization’s advancement than any other facet of living.

But for science and rational thinking presence of sanity would have got postponed or prohibited everywhere. If its negative aspects have been used or the science itself has been misused in some instances that does not make it any less valuable or important or relevant. For that matter what about the negative impacts of religions or misuses in the name of religions , impacts and misuses of political ideologies, economic systems etc.

SCIENCE AND SPIRITUALITY
                             or
http://www.scribd.com/doc/101198033/Science-and- Spirituality

Worse still, the conflict is projected as Humanity versus    Technology as technology has become the predominant manifestation of science and permeating into every aspect of life. No wonder there are important conferences with the theme Claiming Our Humanity — Managing in the Digital Age’ are conducted

4.    Our rich heritage

No one ever questions that; even the avowed enemies of Bharat cannot do that because our heritage is indeed something that we all can be very proud of but why it has lost its relevance. Can we resurrect it by merely repeating it? Won’t we be labeled as ethnocentric by constantly claiming we have one of the greatest heritages? If that is a fact why we need to keep reminding everyone about it every now and then?
