smartphones?

 Why did mobile phones get the name smartphones? 

Importance of a technological innovation, like every tool that human species needs/uses, depends not merely on its novelty or its limited areas of utility but for it to continue and to sustain its relevance, its utility evolves into greater influence, impact, "absorbing and accommodating multiple features making use of or incorporating all sorts RELEVANT technologies that offer EASE OF OPERATIONS and ENHANCES its own GROWTH" with a constant open ended offer of further updating and offering of opportunities to expand.

This applies not only to new technologies, but all tools that humanity uses for its survival, living, comforts, relaxations, recreations, happiness and peace.

For example telephone  which evolved into mobile phone merely to communicate on the move rather than one having to move towards the instrument. 

But then, the evolution of mobiles phones has been phenomenal in that it has replaced as on date the following as per world of statistics
