It is but natural that most words in many languages when they go through their evolution from denotations to connotations undergo multiple changes and mutations.
It is more so with words that are used to refer to something abstract.
Fortunately, no one has any exclusive patent on usage of words and expressions.
In the arena of socio-political debates, discussions, disputes and disagreements words that have an 'aura' around them ( like freedom, liberal etc.) or injected with a 'halo' around them ( like secular, intellectual etc.) will get used as weapons ( to push through interpretations and extrapolations to suit /defend certain ideology/ideologies) but many don't realize that they are like double-edged swords.
All said and done, some of the sickening socio- psychological trends that are getting injected into minds of very young children ( most of whom are innocent and ignorant) and further get imparted through well orchestrated activism to appeal to adolescents of impressionable age is going to create ( already has created in many parts) a generation which will be leading a life devoid of any real pleasant feelings, will not be satisfied with anything, resort to over thinking and hyper reacting, unhappy and complaining about everything and worst part is they will be mislead into interpreting anarchic outrages as reasonable revolt.
Their mind will never be anchored on anything but harboring dislike and disagreement with everything and everyone.
Their perspectives will be the outcome of undecipherable clumpy mess of experiences like ever tilting reactions and wilting spirits.
They will be hopping around constantly with shifting identities, drifting trends and groping around life in vague inanity and inane vagueness and may end up not being comfortable relating with anyone and anything.
In the arena of religion words, especially those in scriptures get over interpreted ( going to the extent of giving contrived justifications wrongly applying present day socio-morals to a very ancient era) and over hyped by impregnating them with outlandish sanctity. Often, further damaged by uncritical love by the believers and unloving criticism by non believers.
