Western bias needs to be exposed aggressively

It is philosophical to say that it is not correct to over generalise or over simplify.

However, when one decides to take on someone/clan, especially the collective 'WEST' (which always tries to be preachy and patronising), one cannot be less aggressive and hint submissive attitude  while trying to sound diplomatic.

That is for writers and some top leaders who want do not want to court controversies. But some time or other when long suppressed truth surfaces it has to be a violent cascade not a gentle stream. Few months back President of Kenya ripped apart in very polite terms and exposed the double standards and dubious dealing of all international institutions. One could see the obvious discomfort on the face of Macron, IMF chief and the World Bank head ( all their faces looked like someone controlling a fart inside a crowded elevator/lift).

Now, slowly and gradually, the dubious dirty deals that happen under the veneer of gentleness are getting exposed.

The Western bias needs to be exposed aggressively.

When I used to visit Madras University library during my pre-university days I was crazy about going through encyclopaedia both general and encyclopaedia of philosophy by Dagobert Runes etc. I used to keep wondering why in none of these books neither Swami Vivekananda nor Sri Aurobindo were even mentioned ( these two because most of  their philosophical and spiritual speeches and talks were in English and they were more philosophical than the many acclaimed Western verbose writers - I am not getting into translated texts).

Then, I started hunting down books on Indian philosophy. There too, they were discussing very dry philosophical systems, not something  about great saints and philosophers and their philosophical wisdom presented as basic didactic sermons that could be easily communicated and internalized with anecdotal experiences and episodes or through appealing short stories like the Zen and Sufi tales  that would drive the message more effectively leaving a better impact.

We have also failed to document a lot of great things about Santhana Dharma and this has led to being fed by Western narratives alone in most cases.

So, the prism through which the world was perceived, the perspectives which pervaded the precincts of popular academic circles were all oriented towards not the Oriental but the Occidental ( a near fatal accidental experience whose wounds may get healed but the scars will remain).

So, we need not work hard nor get worked up in trying to obliterate this mishap or keep singing the refrain of we knew much more than the West much earlier than them ( though this may be or is the fact) but , instead, slowly, steadily and subtly convey our greatness through multiple modes of communication, which are fortunately, easily accessible to many, without either creating friction or fight or fanatical or frustrated venting of anger but fine tuned synergetic means in tune with prevailing contextual relevance.

This needs real intelligent, subtle nuanced and diplomatic delivery of the message.

It is unhealthy if we do not realize  that human race is far more than the popular narratives, leave alone opportunities, it is consciously aware of as Jean Paul Sartre provides the example of the young man who puts his hand on his first date's hand. She, who does not really know him yet, must either leave her hand there or remove it. Either choice reveals something not part of her consciousness. We are far more than the limited opportunities/narratives or ideologies masquerading as philosophies at present in the world.

Raksha Bhandan

 Raksha Bhandan. Bhandhan means

'Bond' 'bridge' or ' connectivity' .

 Added with Raksha it means
'bond of care'.

There are always  deeper layers of meanings that may be interpreted or inferred. In the kritis in Sahana , ' Vandanamu Raghu nandana Sethu 'bhandhana' means 'the bridge of connectivity of the individual soul/subjective spirit with the universal spirit/ soul/ manifested power'.

In that song there is also ' bhaktha chandana' that is ' a deeper feeling' which is beyond emotional or mental bonding. The ' bhandham permeating as oneness'.

Choice of Raga Sahana has significance . Sahana means 'powerful and enduring'

In this context , of course, the best Sahana in my opinion is one rendered in Nadhaswaram by Vedaranyam Vedamurthy . I think it is available on net. Vocally in one concert by TNS for Tapas which I have in my hard disk.

Now, here are two links one to the song by Dr. M.Balamurali Krishna and another by Nithiyananda's explanation  to Mohandas boy. Honestly, he explains in the best possible way using a language which has immense limitations when conveying such philosophical explanations.

FOCUS only on ECONOMIC GROWTH

Well said based on factual observations.

However, there are a few things which I would like to say that may not be welcomed by many because they may not be politically correct/ useful and may go against certain orthodox religious beliefs.

We need to PRIORITISE and FOCUS only on ECONOMIC GROWTH and put on the back burner the other things.

However, India is over-spoiled by a very toxic cocktail where anarchy is practiced and poverty is glorified and/or misconstrued as frugal, ascetic or simple life.

These are collective mindset issues which are further consolidated or firmed up by mainly three institutions of political parties, religious institutions, bureaucratic lobbies and media houses each one for their own mileage and image.

The ingredients of this cocktail are unbridled and irresponsible freedom of expression ( predominantly involving negative sensationalism, victimhood peddling and fake news and scandal mongering) in the name of democracy; excessive political interference in institutions of higher education, areas of  governance, execution and administration; bureaucratic bungling at all levels; overbearing obsessive religious emotionalism blocking logical thinking and practical, contextually relevant approaches to life.

We are addicted to the intoxication of this cocktail. First we need to wean away the society from this addiction.

This requires a lot of harsh measures. We have the advantage of not repeating the mistakes of other big economies like China creating excessive infrastructure, US and some European nations splashing too much of welfare schemes with crazy rights like ' gun licence'.

We must first go back to our original constitution and stick to the term India is a pluralistic society ' not secular'. We must first fix religious obsession and animosity both.

All temple gold must be moved to RBI to be used by government for general welfare and infrastructure schemes.

All religions must be treated equally. No special status for anyone. Hence forth people must be educated not to shower temples with gold or money. You go and pray and pay for maintenance.

If the public stops paying automatically the government will start spending their funds for maintenance and start ticketing like heritage sights. Then automatically,t hey will spend to earn. Why should devotees enrich the government through temples?

Many rituals and traditions are outdated and require a lot of energy, time and money . So , people must be gradually educated to give up on those aspects. Whereas emphasize and enthuse them to adopt the philosophical and spiritual dimensions of religion which are of intrinsic value to life.

People must be simply educated on the need to vote only for those parties and leaders who can deliver socio-economic benefits.

Systems and processes must get simplified so that there is minimal involvement of bureaucratic / official/regulatory nuisance.

Anyway, unless and until we have a severe punishment for defaulters which will act as a deterrent, there is no point in having any complicated regulations.

bull market

The highest bull market in any nation happens when the economy moves from 2 Trillions to 5 Trillions . There are 3 nations who have done it.

I) China took 5 Years to go from 2 Trillions to 5 Trillions (2004-2009) – During this time the Hangsang went from 8500 to 32000 – A 4 times gain.

II) USA took 11 years to go from 2 Trillions to 5 Trillions (1977-1988) – The Dow Jones between 1977 to 2000 went from 700 levels to 12000 – Gain of 15 times.

III) Japan took 8.5 years to go from 2 Trillions to 5 Trillions (1978-1986) – The Japanese stock market between 1978-1991 went from 2000 to 37000.

So Historically the mother of all bull Markets in any nation starts between 2 Trillions to 5 Trillions!

IV) India and the Indian economy is just getting started. Join yourself and create wealth by compounding over a long term.

Part -2 response from a senior professional Happy Investing. !

India has done her first step of triple jump (the hop) between 1991-2016 (25 years), next one (the step) is work in progress between 2016-2021 (with bouts of ups and  downs, called as consolidation phase) and next action (the jump) between 2022-2040 (completion of 50 years of liberalisation journey) should take the Indian economy from $2 Trillion to over $10 Trillion.

Need to keep focus ONLY on economics and not on religion, caste etc that are not relevant when it would need extraordinary momentum to bridge gaps with US & China!

There’s all reasons to stay bullish on the Indian economy and  financial markets!

Basic intention and visualization.

Everyone in any realm realises that many things pop up after the basic intention and visualization.

Then, often they far exceed or deviate from the original  conceptualization or plan  with serendipitous supplies of inputs.

The point to note is that everything starts with intention and/ or instinct or vibe.

Afterwards it progresses well through imagination and creativity but finally consolidates into perfection through focus and dedication.

Spark must get ignited

Most creative arts, scientific inventions, and social ideologies have their seeds embedded inside several fruits  unnoticed.

It requires a specific soul to observe , to notice and to realise their importance and utility.

Then, those seeds get sown to grow and to manifest into glowing tree branching out and offering more fruits and seeds.

There are periods in human history when certain activities get prioritized and become prominent against all odds.

Sometimes, the whole human race has a collective  obsession with certain specific activities to the exclusion of the rest. It started from creating more and more efficient tools for hunting to weapons to wage wars to methods to enhance trading in commodities to politically dominate and so on to the present age of highly sophisticated technology driven solutions to various aspects of life.

In all these there is one common feature, if we observe, i.e.

lateral thinking

This is where lateral thinking and the instinct to look for alternative possibilities lies.

Unfortunately, nowadays, in many fields many are not even willing to look at alternatives.

Professional expertise often leads some to  blinkered horse vision syndrome.

In his first book 'PO beyond Yes and NO' Edward de Bono explained clearly why he felt the necessity to highlight and to pursue lateral thinking and teaching thinking as an exclusive subject for children.

The first occasion which made him to do so was on the way to a seminar / conference at Moscow ( called Leningrad in those days) where 50 of world's top psychologists and psychiatrists had assembled in heavy downpour of snow and none were able to insert the key and open the car.

They all tried all means of melting snow using  friction rubbing hard with the thick gloves, breaking even with axe but still, hard, and heavy snow fall blocked the whole. Then they tried pouring petrol on door keyhole to melt even that didn't work. All that they tried were proven correct methods but did not work. They were 'thinking only about melting ice' . He was sitting and watching them do these while sipping his whisky sitting in a corner. He went near his car with his assigned driver, told him to stand ready with the key just pointed towards the keyhole, poured raw whisky, the ice melted, and the driver inserted the key, got inside and started the car.

None that of ' defreezing the ice/ snow' .

Then and there, in that conference itself he dwelt on his popular theory.

There are as many personality traits as there are human beings.

There are as many personality traits as there are human beings.

Some of them have been observed( not necessarily fully understood) and verbalised with certain labels.

Every human being goes through a metamorphosis wherein everything grows and evolves starting from the obviously visible like the physical features and not so obvious attitudes, attributes, and never decipherable intentions - this has given room to a gamut of states of mind like envy, hidden agenda, ulterior motives, simmering discontent, lurking suspicion, undercurrents of identity affinities, overtones of ideologies etc.

Most of the personality types that are identifiable and referable have been assigned some verbal label by many philosophers, psychologists, scientific scholars.

These classifications are meant more for easy reference and not necessarily the only types into which human beings are to be classified as there may exist many personality types besides, between and beyond these verbally known or classified ones.

This is so because every human being is a multi-faceted or multi-dimensional phenomenon, each dimension having its own inherent dynamics and the dynamics it accumulates when interacting with or relating with other human beings, species, environments, issues, things, trends etc.

Therefore, trying to over simplify or over generalise personality types may be a hindrance to proper and unbiased understanding.

However, there are some general factors and principles which may be used as an outline for Personality Development.

The following I wrote for a magazine in the 90s, later presented as a mindmap.

intelligence or expertise

 Real intelligence or expertise

is in the ability to SCAN THROUGH a document, a issue, a problem and GRASP quickly the VITAL ASPECTS that need to be addressed ON PRIORITY as per CONTEXTUAL RELEVANCE BASED PERSPECTIVE.

This intelligence works automatically when one LEASES the MIND SPACE and CONSCIOUS  ATTENTION with TOTAL INTENSITY and INTENSE TOTALITY while OBSERVING something/someone or LISTENING TO  someone/ something or PERFORMING something.

Some call this as tuning to the correct frequency or getting into the groove.

So, intelligence is not in merely having a heap of accumulated knowledge in a subject; not even in having an in depth understanding of a subject; not in striking new contrived  ideas to impress anyone; not in spinning tales and sprinkling terminological terrorism; not in digging up historical, scriptural and many other multiple references to vindicate a specific perspectives loaded with great and good thoughts and ideas.

However, all of these above aspects are useful and helpful in sharpening skill sets, improving techniques, enhancing understanding and may be contributory factors and be part of the input and output aspects of or ingredients that are in the cauldron which churns up and gives out the real intelligence we referred to earlier but these must not be confused and labelled as real intelligence .

Biographies of various hues and colours.

Biographies of various hues and colours.

One thing is clear that it is very difficult to restrict a biographies of some of India great souls under any single specific category because they did not either view or live life in specific silos but led a wholesome life with  a macro perspective accommodating many things with certain time tested values and principles ( not necessarily traditions or rituals).

Swami Vivekananda is one such great soul ,descended on earth to make the great philosophies of Sanathan Dharma known to the world in a language and idiom that the West would understand ( he was the first in this aspect).

I have read his speeches, writings of 14 volumes and some 6 of his biographies which included a wide range from abject veneration to rationally sounding nuanced criticism from different perspectives to those who had an uneasy self imposed compulsion to either include or to exclude him from the classifications of religious leader, monk, saint, sage, spiritual guide, liberal philosopher, advocate of  socio-political changes and mores, promoter of greatness of Hindu religion/ philosophy/ spiritualistic practices to a promoter of values emanating from these with predominant humanitarian compassion to a person who dared to question certain aggressive activities of Abrahamic religions and so on.

I attempted my own when some organization in Malaysia wanted one for his 150th Anniversary.

clandestine religious colonialism

In the name of politics and social justice it is a funded clandestine religious colonialism perpetrated with the active accomplices / betrayers.

Are the other political leaders and public noticing it and taking it seriously or preferring to carry on with blissful ignorance?

Now Channi is in Punjab - he is a hard core missionary supporter - which is why mama mia picked him.

Missionaries are smartly succeeding in converting Hindus using installed political leadership at the state level top. After reaching a critical mass they can easily do it at national level also

This is what the “Constantine moment” that Abhijit Iyer Mitra was referring to in his video “Extinction of Hindus'

Christians were actually pretty unsuccessful in the Roman Empire till they got one lucky master stroke. They got lucky that the emperor Constantine converted & then there was no looking back. After that it was not a bottom up approach but a top down approach to getting demographic numbers.

And this has historically worked against unsuspecting and unorganized polytheistic cultures like romans, ancient Arabs, Persians & now Hindus

Unfortunately most Indians inside India have very little awareness of the creeping danger as it’s very difficult to see & gauge these things when you are inside the system. Once inside, for system pluralistic groups that don’t have expansionist objectives like Hindus start consoling themselves with false jingoism, feel good statements like “we have survived so many years so will survive in future too” or “sanatan dharma is eternal and will never die” or look at all the great progress (when there is none significant really) etc

These are all ostrich tactics where one puts his head in the sand when there is imminent trouble all around and keeps telling oneself that all is well & everything is fantastic

When you sit outside and gaze inwards all this bigger picture dangers & nasty monotheistic strategies become apparent and visible.

Hopefully some miracle intervenes else it looks like Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Kerala & to some degree Bengal are fast collapsing. These are big chunks of land and culturally critical ones too.

Not a pretty picture sadly! But someone has to be the messenger.

Different people like to manifest their interest, involvement, and affinity in various ways with varying degrees of intensity.

It is like some wearing it on the sleeves is emphasized like vibhuti, kungumum, poonal , some visiting temples, some listening to preaching etc.

If in their different approaches to bhakthi if they don't miss the intrinsic values and inherent principles and if they perform whatever they do with conviction, then, that may be fine.

Some may be really interested because of something they get out of it or as a pure entertainment or diversion or gain something of worth or value or mileage.

We cannot seek or look out for concrete answers from abstract or imaginary concepts ( except through mathematical, scientific, or philosophical interpretations).

Besides, whenever we try to evaluate anything, we tend to either intellectualise or verbalize to fit into our ideological or socio-cultural biases, forgetting that there are millions of other perspectives to decipher, to analyse, to perceive and to evaluate human activities.

RELEVANT TO THE PROFESSION

Why is our society going in reverse gear in adopting some so- called moral stands ( in fact stranded in islands of heightened hypocrisy) more in tune with the views of orthodoxy of the 17th  century?

Where is the question of mediocrity when a person has undergone so many tests and trials  of competition 'RELEVANT TO THE PROFESSION'?

It is like saying a cricketer is mediocre just because he cannot articulate well or rattle views on every subject on earth.

It is a contest of  beauty cum physical fitness cum talent cum grace cum poise cum vibes a person carries as per certain parameters set by rules of competition and sponsored by many in the fashion and cosmetic industry.

It is not a contest to test whether the contestants were masters at philosophy, science, mathematics, environmental studies, politics, social studies, history and so on.

In the present day any ten-year-old kid has an opinion on every subject, and it is a very good positive sign of exposure to information ( how they understand or interpret comes next).

Media does ask even a child of a celebrity questions on certain global issues.

What is wrong with Fashion Parades- how hypocritical we are.

There was a time in India when the self-appointed cultural police vehemently opposed, especially through the media criticizing and condemning right left and centre all genre of beauty contests like fashion shows, cat walks and especially the commercial advantage that the Miss INDIA contests had. It was not in the early 70’s or 80’s but in the late 90’s when the Indian films were portraying women as vulgar as possible. So , I found this to be hypocritical.

Therefore I wrote in Eves Touch Adam’s view column at that time. Quote the article as it appeared:-

How hypocritical can we get?!

Is there anything wrong with beauty? Or contests? Or both? Are we sure we object to cynosures? Or are we peeved at the parading of an ectomorphic entourage of long legs and perky breast in see –through dresses, transparent wrap-skirts, and pieces torn asunder sticking on the body like strings of noodles slipped from a fork? Because all these promote the vulgar portrayal of women and increase the pornographic voyeurism of our youth. And we would be right on all these scores to object to a romantic twaddle that passes for culture and spoils the young minds. But haven’t these very things been shown day in and day out in Indian films for decades? In fact , our films abound in all these and much more, from sexpressive clothes to suggestive gestures to uncompromising postures to an enormous amount of veiled vulgarity.

We never object to viewing these films with our children. But we make such a hue and cry about beauty contests, which have nothing to do with vulgarity. In a beauty contest, the judgment is not only on appearances but on many other aspects of the personality. The winner is expected to have the face of Venus, the brains of Minerva, the grace of Terpsichore, the memory of Macaulay, the figure of Juno, the voice of Cordelia. She is expected to be a Protean artist, a Triton among minnows, a Dulcinea to all, patient as Griselda and so on.

Even if it were a mere test of beauty, what is wrong with it? Beauty may be skin deep, but it is at beauty that our eyes peep, our hearts leap, our memories want to keep, what haunts us in our sleep, so what if it is just skin deep? Once a father told his son, “Remember ,beauty is only skin deep”. The son replied, “deep enough for me, I am not a cannibal”.

Our self- proclaimed , moralists will be satisfied if our winners in Miss India contests and Fashion parades declare as a woman once did when asked what gave her such a lovely complexion and what cosmetic she used, “ I use for my lips truth, for my voice prayer, for the eyes pity, for the hands charity, for the figure uprightness and for the heart , love”.

Context

 Cardinal principles:-

Never claim or presume you know everything;

Never say everything you know to everyone.

None of the above at all times.

As nitrogen fixation is important for ecosystem, contextual fixation is important for personal, family, social, political, religious, economic and technological realms.

Depending on that, we can choose to imbibe, internalise or ignore.

The stories and lessons that got delivered are of greater importance than whether it was Shakespeare or Pierceshake. Whether he was a Catholic or whether he had long flowing hair or whether he was from Greece or Germany.

Yes, I was aware of this claim.

Like all of the claims that Shakespeare was anyone OTHER than Shakespeare, they all start with a premise and then bend the facts (and ignore inconvenient ones) to "prove" their claim.

I assume the modern day critics & biographers want to get the limelight rather than establishing truth.

Does it at all matter whether it was not he, Shakespeare… the stories  and characters having been borrowed but having grown in humanity - and outgrown the bard himself; facts are being bent to either accommodate or achieve a very contorted view of a hypothetical WRITER (man or woman)! Pay no heed to the news clipping.

Because it stems from, like most things in Great Britain, from a question of class. In the 19th Century many scholars couldn't accept, were almost offended by, the notion that Shakespeare wasn't upper class and even worse, he was from the provinces.

So it began, the never ending quest to repurpose Shakespeare in their own image. There are many couplets that only rhyme if spoken with an east Anglian accent. Many colloquial phrases are used, for example, "I may be mad North by Northwest / but when the wind blows Southerly/ I know a hawk from a handsaw".

To the vast majority of the English speaking world that makes no sense because a Hawk is a bird of prey and a handsaw is a carpenter's tool. However, in Shakespeare's local dialect, a Handsaw is a bird (a heron I think). It makes sense when you know this.

It has been exaggerated in the media and given a huge resounding board in certain publishing circles.
