Cricket has too many nuanced techniques [ most other sports do have as well] which are
being analysed and explained well by ‘experts now' and ‘advanced technology helps us to see
and enhance our understanding.
However, that does not mean these techniques and nuances did not exist before
[unfortunately, we do not have video footage of the batting of Gary Sobers, Rohan Kanhai,
C.K. Naidu, Salim Durrani etc.
In addition, beyond these types of useful in-depth analysis, there are also other varieties
which were imbued with ‘excellent natural talent’ and ‘unique intelligence’ of certain
individuals.
Excellent talent:-
The best talent in any field is the manifestation of flamboyance with ease, simplicity and
spontaneity -the hallmark traits of naturally talented and gifted greats. The ability to
repeatedly perform such feats, not a few instants of fluke.
Great example I can think of is Virendra Shewag with his pure timing, minimum effort and
enjoying hitting sixes that too singing while the bowler is running to bowl.
Unique intelligence of certain individuals:-
The delivery of desired results without bothering about criticism of orthodoxy.
Vinod Kumble when some criticized him for lack of turn. He knew he had to focus only at
the overall width of each wicket is 9 inches (22.9 cm) height of stumps 28 inches (71.1 cm)
with maximum and minimum diameters of 1 1 ⁄ 2 inches (3.81 cm) and 1 3 ⁄ 8 inches (3.49 cm) the
length.
Shane Warne used his intelligence more on tossing up the ball like Prasanna and the angles
it created more than his turn [ though that was huge] that’s how he and Ian Healy combo
engineered many wickets.
Ian Bottom took his last 80 plus wickets in his cricketing career through sheer intelligence.
I am not mentioning many talented present-day players as that would generate too many biased
arguments.
