Usually we get carried away by such filmy-style monologues, dialogues, debates, satires, etc., but...👌👌👌👌 But then there is also a flip side to this: doctors not only need to study a lot but also remember a lot and do a lot of practice to be able to give 'treatments.' Note the word 'treatments'; allopathic doctors never say we will cure (unlike other alternative medical systems).

They say we do surgery and procedures after finding out through diagnosis what needs to be done to give the best 'treatment.' 

Now, coming to the system and money, why is the mindset all over the world about the profits that pharma, hospitals, and doctors make? 

For all their knowledge, works, etc., it is nothing compared to film stars, models (of both sexes), senior advocates, politicians, successful middlemen, etc., most of whom make a hundred times the money for half the efforts, responsibilities, knowledge-based, empirically end-result-oriented methods (for which huge spending is required for R&D), practical feasibility (because human anatomy is indeed, despite centuries of research, a difficult maze, especially when one has illness, injury, disease, etc.), universal applicability (need not be and cannot be 100% perfect), and universal accessibility and availability. 

All these involve costs, and who is going to pay for them? 

From years of R&D to manufacturing to marketing to administration to equipment costs to professional fees, etc., who will pay for them?

Why does no one ever question the exorbitant cost of branded cars, cosmetics, luxury items, and worst of all, unhealthy branded packed food items, both solid and liquid (ordinary beverages) and so-called seasoned wines (a liter costs sometimes a few lakhs)? 

Pharma and hospitals are not a nasty nexus to loot but nice networks to reboot health, which has had some issues. 

This anti-health care professional or anti-health care industry stance is a populist whip used by many, starting from George Bernard Shaw till now. 

Only doctors and patients who are sick and injured know the amount of remedy, repair, and relief they get.

Every human being is personally responsible for his or her health (physical, mental, emotional, psychological, spiritual, legal, professional, use of material comforts, and social).

If one fails to take responsibility or, due to bad destiny, happens to face health issues that need immediate care and treatment, the entire health care industry, starting from ambulance drivers to doctors to hospital owners, comes to the rescue. 

These populist videos and documentaries many can make, but they hide the other side of the story.

Many of those who do such projects, when they have a problem, run to the nearest hospital.

Success and Happiness

What is success? What is happiness? What is real education? What is reality?

It is actually good and fortunate that these debates about what constitutes happiness? What constitutes success? What type of education is real education are fortunately floating around.

It is all the more welcome trend if these are debated seriously in the realms of scholarly academic circles involving psychologists, psychiatrists, besides, of course  politicians, economists, entrepreneurs and all other concerned leaders, mass opinion molders and other manipulators of social perception who involve in social engineering for various purposes and all these invariably spilling onto social media as well.

Even if  nothing of great worth or value emerges out of all these questions, at least they reflect our inclination and inquisitiveness to know something else or something more than what all these terms like success, happiness, education have been referring to so for.

Besides, these debates inevitably lead to rethinking and reworking many out dated models and also they try to remove fixed definitions of certain concepts which are loosely and carelessly used without realizing the influence and impact that they have on especially impressionable minds and the injury that they inflict to those who are unable to fulfill the deemed correct definitions of these terms-which incidentally lead to many major psychological, neurological and social problems.

The worst symptoms of all these terms are the labels that get appropriated and assigned unmindful of the social and psychological impact that they can have.

I have written on all the three above referred terms, namely Success, Happiness, and Education at various platforms at different times, sometimes these terms do not pop up as they are but they are injected in certain other versions through a clever usage of plethora of thesaurus of terminological tirade which flushes down all nuances of life forms on its way.

The social engineers of various hues and colors mostly politicians, religious leaders, media persons, business houses to name a few who deliberately define these terms to suit their agenda.

[Life in its very essence means lively so it cannot settle down. Settling down is a loosely used and well accepted terminological contradiction.

Life has neither a pause button nor is it a pass it on baton.

Definitions and debates -too much of them over actions

Do we always need definitions and debates for everything in every situation?

1.     Very nice madam I agree with some of your observations. Of course as a linguist I insist on definitions and unless defined clearly we may not have clarity about what we are addressing. By nature I like to assimilate whatever little I read, observe, listen and learn and like to share with anyone when given an opportunity to do so. Mostly I do not initiate discussions because unfortunately nowadays everything can lead to a controversy ensued by an unending concomitant factors like debates, protests, rallies, demands , arguments [ which makes me remember very often one of my favorite author’s work POINT COUNTER POINT –by Huxley]

2.     Defining is a definite step and a must when there is confusion, either intentional or unintentional inaction but not in crisis or while addressing a calamity. Very often this step tends to become a stop. Besides at times, in certain issues when the subject matter, especially in specific contexts demand actions more than definitions. For example when a thirsty man knocks at the door we do not start to find out the definition of either thirst or water or a thirsty soul but we prioritize giving water. That is almost the situation of poverty[ I mean lack of basic material needs] a crisis of which all of us are aware and are also equally aware what must be done to change the situation at least gradually , marginally if not adequately or fully.

3.     Utopias always obstruct the view of the obvious.

4.     Results are nearer to reality than conjectures, hypotheses, presumptions etc. So economic development improves the condition of poor is a time tested result.

5.     Semantics of any word is again to be applied or understood with regard to contextual relevance. I am giving certain links in order not to unnecessarily repeat them.

6.     I was extremely pleased when MODI said at UN ‘first we must define what ‘terrorism’ is? If we cannot define how can we fight it?”

7.     All words especially abstract ones acquire too many connotations

and the onus is on the user to use appropriate sieves and filter.

8.     In many cases I do not want to name any professional but because of  playing on semantics and interpreting words justice is delayed and lot of time,money and energy is wasted.

9.     Most unfortunate spread of this trend is happening through mass opinion molders through media.

10.   Everything has its own dharma [for people who may not be comfortable with this terminology] internal dynamics, inevitable structure, inherent patterns etc based on certain inherent characteristics/attributes and acting according to situational or contextual relevance. Unfortunately our understanding of them is limited.

11.   Similarly there are certain universal principles one of which is all our actions fall within these three categories what we want to do, what we can do and what we are destined to do. At different times and different situations one or more of these will predominate.

12.   But at no cost must at least we stop attempting to do what we can do as social creatures.

13.   We are fortunately living in an age well equipped with various advantages like data, technology, information dissemination at great speed etc and we must use these to attempt to provide maximum happiness to maximum number.

Debates and reactions do not get things done they just spill and spit more ideas, words and emotions, some of which are good, useful and entertaining sometimes but not always.
