Inflated egos with ideological inhibitions hiding beneath the ‘mask of aura’ of terminologies like liberal, intellectual, rational etc end up damaging

the aura of those terms.

1. Anything that is not subjected to empirical evidence or backed by scientifically documented proof  or rationally  explained , cannot be expected to get universal approval much less any acceptance from people who like to logically analyze before accepting anything.

2. However, if blind belief is bad inherently, then, baseless comparisons with unconnected subjects, irrelevant tools of evaluation and applying meaningless extrapolations are as bad as blind belief.

3. A person may get into a trance or deep meditative realm merely by listening to a piece of music, a good piece of writing or a nice art or by seeing a stunning beautiful person or by watching a great display of skill in some sport or technique in some field.

4. For each one of the above category there are many for whom that particular realm may bring the maximum satisfaction or relief or recreation or peace of mind or happiness which may seem absolutely meaningless to others not tuned in that frequency to capture those specific vibrations.

5. For that reason alone neither music nor the persons who get carried away by music can be deemed as insane or useless or meaningless persons.

6. We can never deny or defy the importance of anything that exists or is being appreciated by some persons somewhere for the simple reason that they were part of an evolutionary process whose relevance in terms of importance may have reduced or disappeared.

7. However, we have always at our disposal the option to choose what we want or what we like.

8. Personally I have a very ambivalent attitude when it comes to any belief in anything and even within a belief I will chaff and choose only certain aspects or parts which I want or like and that too without any consistency because I observe the fact that everything undergoes some metamorphosis and is also involved in constant process of evolution.

9. As some aspects of science have openness and scope to give way for newer and better discoveries and inventions, any belief system too must be open to multiple interpretations and criticisms and this rule applies to anti-belief brigade too.

10. If some persons with inflated egos and deflated complexes and due to their own lack of interest or in depth knowledge in certain things or ideological inhibition or lack luster perspective but at the same to seek attention try to compensate that by appropriating and anointing themselves verbally with certain terminologies that have an aura around them [terminologies] like liberals, intellectuals, thinkers, rationalists, moralists, trend setters and so on. Then, they are guilty of damaging the very aura around those terms.

11. If everything has to be hammered by only certain specific methods to be anointed as acceptable then it is as narrow as the belief systems.

12. The problem per se is not with any belief, any science, any idea or ideology, any ism, any concept but it is the intense identity based stiff and fixed fanatical extremism which is ignorant of nature's manifestation through variety, not yet rendered smooth by some compromises, tolerance, social obligations, niceties normally required to cohabit with all other species and so on.

13. To claim that not believing in any belief is the greatest belief is also okay and fine but to insist that only such mortals are superior to the rest is arrogating a clan and gloating in an exclusive Club.

14. If too much of hammering is allowed to be carried out by such exclusive Club members then the world will be left with only a very few professions and activities and humanity will be wandering in an arena of vacuous inanity or inane vacuum.

15. Life in general and the planet and universes are almost immortal and our mortal frames and brains cannot grasp everything to equip us to pass grand universal pronouncements and judgments on anything.

16. I do not believe in many things but I cannot deride those who believe for whatever reason.

17.  We all have multiple options or choices we can avoid, disagree, debate, find fault, interpret the way we want, criticize but we cannot arrogate to suppress or oppress the other persons’ harmless and non-violent prerogatives to pursue or believe in whatever they want and this is real tolerance.

18. We all must learn not to extrapolate our ideological fixations on everything.

19. We must evaluate everything based on its inherent attributes and its own contextual relevance.

20. We must also learn to appreciate the harmless sensitivities of others and acquire humility to acknowledge that every human being have the right and freedom to pursue whatever they want without interfering, invading and harming others in any way.

21. All normal life is confined by space and time- both literal as well as the real mind space and time – and we cannot deny to any other person  that right unless that person causes harm to others.

Humility, tolerance, humanitarianism and wisdom

Here in India more frequently we indulge, interfere or are indifferent rather than involving with humanitarian concerns.

We suffer from two extremes of unloving criticism and uncritical love.

Greater than anything else is the attitude of humility, tolerance and real wisdom evolving from them.

We need to evolve many behavior patterns to make life better on planet Earth [ which itself is a wrong word used for something which has more than 70 per cent water] which  has unfortunately been divided by the atlas of national boundaries and spoiled by excessive dominance of human species.

However, evolution fortunately has ensured in all spheres and in all its manifestations that variety has been held in tact which human beings unfortunately have misunderstood as differences.

No one is either big or pig. All are morsels of biochemical organism infused with energy and interrelated in many ways than individual human brains can understand or have bothered to understand.

Love for any language, art, culture, tradition, religion etc need not necessarily lead to either identity veneration or vilification.

It is not what language we speak, what tradition we follow, what culture we love that matter.

What ultimately matters is how we treat others? How we treat other species? How compassionate are we? How humanitarian are we?  

But I feel while everyone has every right to feel euphoric about something close to their emotions, heart and mind it also must ensure to imbibe a spontaneous or subconscious or studiously developed sense of humility and tolerance towards others and what others are trying to say and wanting to say with all sense of humor and subtle sarcasm.

These alone can bring many of us out of both egocentric and ethnocentric whirlpools of self deceptions and complexes [either superior or inferior]

There could be multiple versions of wisdom in various forms imparted through myriad scriptures and religious practices.

But real universal wisdom in my humble opinion may be like this whether sanctioned or sanctified by either social mores or religious morality.

Wisdom is the work shop where works of evolutionary trends and experiences of everyone in it emerge to express wisely the essence of everything to enlighten everyone;

A wisdom which prioritizes living in the present context and along with practicing certain time tested values which have relevance in present context but with global perspective to bequeath a livable planet, a lovable society with lovely infrastructures and improved living conditions;

A wisdom that evaluates everything and everyone with contextual relevance and based on the inherent attributes or merits of what or who is being evaluated without extrapolating any  presumptions, opinions, judgments, perceptions, expectations, ideologies, doctrines, identity based ideology and so on;

A wisdom which is willing to make minor adjustments, small compromises, spontaneous cooperation to create compatible and conducive atmosphere with humility devoid of any egocentric pride;

A wisdom with the realization and a perspective that must be aware that life is a constant process of learning of the multiple dimensions of many things and the various dynamics of those dimensions involving the constant interaction and interrelationship with everyone and everything.

A wisdom that is willing to accommodate multiple methods or means of life with some overall tolerant attitude embedded on humanitarian concerns towards all human life and environmental or natural concern towards all other species.

A wisdom that gets its clarity of understanding through a churning process that takes into consideration several aspects from the practical to the philosophical to the all fantasies of the mind.

4. In ThinkEdu16 conference in concluding session Sri Sri Ravishankar answered spontaneously very well to VC of a university in very simple terms how to avoid irrational depressions due to high expectations and corresponding disappointment.

5. He used just three very effective words. He said you definitely need 'Passion' to perform effectively but 'Dispassion' to carry on with shortcomings and failures. He said when you succeed in Passion you enjoy, when you have this 'Dispassion' then you do not 'hate yourself' between these two if you have 'Compassion' then you do not hate or blame others. So he said you need Passion, Dispassion and Compassion -all the three.

6. I think this simple mantra can contribute enough moderation and sense of balance which is the ultimate test of a matured person.

Tolerance must be the main virtue that must be taught in any religion  without that I think religion will be misused, manipulated and its scripture misinterpreted. Tolerance is not that easily possible through intellectual analysis, emotional approaches, rational perception, social ethics, legal enforcements, political slogans or even religious morals; for, all these are essentially Conditioned and have an inherent filtering system; besides, all these edifices are
built on the foundations of thought and passion, the two great factors of discrimination and division.

Tolerance is possible only through an unqualified love born out of a comprehensive understanding of the fact that everyone and everything is the result of Divine Will and Divine Manifestation.

Peace and Non violence, Harmony and Unity

Peace and non violence, harmony and unity are some of the topics given. I see redundancy in these two topics. Where there is peace there cannot be violence and where there is harmony unity is obvious.
I would not like to delve into philosophical enquiry and produce reams of treatise as to what is peace and what is harmony and engage in verbally entertaining the readers. I would like settle for the simple statement that peace and harmony are two wonderful states that exist in nature and universe or to put it the other way they are the two natural and universal states.
The very reason as to why we debate on these two states is that they have been damaged and therefore have created lack of peace and harmony which are problems for the whole of humanity socially, psychologically and physically.
We need to find solutions to these problems, namely, lack of peace and harmony.
To find solutions we must explore the facts as to who or/and what caused these problems.
While exploring the facts we must desist getting distracted from the following major traps:-
1] Mutilating the facts,
2] Analyzing them with preconceived notions or prejudices,
3] Generalizing the particular and particularizing the general,
4] Approaching facts with unloving criticism or uncritical love,
5] Evaluating facts with our pet isms or philosophies,
6] Resorting to statistical justifications,
7] Unleashing unworkable utopia,
8] Mask them with logical fallacies,
9] Bury them in pleasant jargons, and
10] Give historical justifications.
Human race, unlike other species, because of its sixth sense and enhanced faculties and its inherent urge to perform things beyond just the physical alone, tend to perceive, act and react at different levels with varying degrees of intensities based on the multiple influences that it has been and is being constantly subjected to. So manifestation of variety in each individual not only in physical form but also in psychological perceptions and ensuing actions and reactions is inevitable.
At the same time human beings will have to live inevitably as interdependent social beings. Society is an organization formed and functions to carry on collective living of individual human beings. I am not getting into the merits and demerits of different forms of social set ups. I am approaching the basic fabric of what a society is. So this social set up has to frame certain rules and regulations for the collective smooth functioning that can help the activities of the various individual psyches and souls. Very often interdependent human psyche also becomes gregarious and willingly accepts certain set codes of conduct and helps formation of specific social set ups in certain geographical areas with specific socio-cultural commonalities and common religious beliefs. In such situations the specific social set up helps the life and enhances the life aspirations of many individuals. So for so good.
The problem crops when the promoters and proponents of a specific successful social set up with its tested brand of socio- cultural characters, geographical suitability and religious activities try to replicate and enforce it in other locations. They carry too far and presume that their brand of homogenization that has worked in a particular area should be the best option for the rest of humanity.
History bears witness to this obsession with homogenization. The obsession is because homogenization also offers opportunity to hegemonize. It has time and again disturbed peace and harmony and delayed the progress of western civilization and destroyed global development. It has been carried out in various ways through indoctrination, by force, through cultural invasion, through war etc and throughout history it has failed miserably, be it the Roman Empire’s greed to spread its tentacles, be it the attempt at religious homogenization which failed with the Spanish Inquisition, be it Nazism, be it Colonialism, Communism etc. Now that these same proponents of homogenization perceive economic power to be the panacea for all human ills have got hold of GATT and making trips into the global economic activities through TRIPS.
Now all types of homogenization are carried out very easily through the mass opinion molders, the ubiquitous Media. The negative effects of media are like the negative effects of nuclear technology.
Another important fact is as individuals we have certain inherent, either hereditarily acquired or cultivated, tendencies, tastes in every aspect of life that it becomes difficult to accept everything and everyone. An A to Z free verse on these different aspects.
Our ambitions are too achievement oriented to accept everything and everyone;
Our beliefs are too blinkered to bear everything and everyone;
Our cleverness is too corrupted to care for everything and everyone;
Our dexterity is too delicate to deftly handle everything and everyone;
Our emotions are too entangled to entertain and engage everything and everyone;
Our faith is too firmly fixed to fly freely and find everything and everyone;
Our generosity guarded to give into everything and everyone;
Our hearts are too hypocritical to harbor everything and everyone;
Our intellect and ideologies are too impervious to include everything and everyone;
Our judgments are too jagged to justify everything and everyone;
Our knowledge is too knotty to know everything and everyone;
Our life span is too limited to learn about everything and everyone;
Our mentality is too meanly molded to manage everything and everyone;
Our notions are too narrow to nurture everything and everyone;
Our occupations are too overloaded to let us observe everything and everyone;
Our perceptions are too prejudiced to permit everything and everyone;
Our quests are too quirky to quench everything and everyone;
Our reasons are too restrictive to realize everything and everyone;
Our senses are too selective and selfish to satisfy everything and everyone;
Our thoughts are too conditioned to tolerate everything and everyone;
Our urges are too utilitarianistic to understand everything and everyone;
Our values are too vacillating to vindicate everything and everyone;
Our will power is too weak to work with everything and everyone;
Our x-axial greed is too xiphoid not to cut off everything and everyone;
Our yearnings are too yummy to let us yield to everything and everyone;
Our zeal is too zigzagging to give zest to everything and everyone.

There is only one single human quality, that can act an antidote to these factors that cripple peace on social level that is the obsession to homogenize and hegemonize and at individual level the things listed above, and that quality is supreme among all the human qualities, and that is Tolerance. In fact I would like to reproduce another A to Z free verse on tolerance that I had published in my old name [v.karthikeyan] in a magazine called ‘Story Of Life’ of which I was one of the editor.
