The farming community was not taken into confidence while developing new research and developmental policies in agriculture

Dear Sh. yogi
Your views about Agriculture are fine. We the Agricultural Scientists in collusion with the political pundits have created the greatest havoc in the agriculture. We ignored the existing the cropping system then in the particular region and introduced newer crops and forced them to grow and yield. We have not taken care of the traditional crop varieties which are best suited for the poly crop system. The government has not followed any consistent policy in agriculture and its research. We have tested the versions of theoreticians who have on knowledge in agriculture. The farming community was not taken into confidence while developing new research and developmental policies in agriculture. All policy decisions were made with in the four walls in the congregation of the vested interests/ friends caste groups. These were all dictated by the persons who did not have any knowledge in the practical agriculture. We have not studied thoroughly the available Germplasm and used in our breeding program.
We used/using only the current popular varieties as a base for developing newer one.The most important one that we have given scant respect to understand the causes for higher yields in the modern varieties and their impacts on the given system.
All though we have coordinated research projects in the country it lacks coordination among different disciplines of the faculties of Basic Sciencs.
We have given scant respect to the crop biochemistry and related metabolisms.
We simply considered soils as mere soils DEAD ONE and did not study critically the impact of growing modern varieties on this living entity under the mono crop system .
Like wise we can enumerate many things for the failure and ecocidal effects of modern agriculture. Let us hope the technological era of present century will help our generation to have good living with agriculture with least evolution of CO2 and nitrate accumulation in the soils ,streams, seas in order to result in least impact on the ecosystem.
