Do scopes of farmers’ lives
be submerged in the ropes of suicides? No.
Farmers are not keen on
sensationalizing their issues to seek sympathy or pity though that is what some
politicians and media do.
Purpose of projecting their
problems is not to perpetuate them but to seek better and clear understanding
of their problems and sensible solutions.
Projections of problems are
not the result of planned ploy of communism or the result of display of
capitalism.
Probably political ideology
peddlers may seek mileage out of such projections.
But in reality it is a
question of concern for the whole of humanity and therefore, of humanism.
Unloving criticism, political
blame games, blind ritualistic and religious beliefs and political ideology
venerations have not and never can solve the problems, if so; the whole world
will not continue to have the same problems for so many centuries.
They all may have had their
relevance at particular times in some specific contexts and situations but we
cannot commit the mistake of extending and extrapolating the same frames of
reference to deal with present day problems.
“In the end nothing less than the whole of everything
can be the truth of anything at all”- William James
Life and every aspect of every
social structure and all economic activities inherently have multiple
dimensions and each dimension has its own multitude of dynamics.
Besides, nature operates on
its own dynamics unmindful of the survival of any one species alone.
Planet earth is not merely
human centric.
Evolution in all aspects
starting from biological to socio-cultural factors functions on its own
metamorphosis and changes.
That’s why it is imperative
that many traditions and cultures in most fields to effect a transition and
transform as per the emerging needs and trends.
So, it is only obvious that
all these together can get further complex [not complicated] when all
dimensions operate with their multitude of dynamics in a wholesome interplay of
interrelated activity of constant churning called life.
These get further fuzzy when
churning happens in varying cauldrons of different regions, professions, fields
of activities, cultures and containers of different identities.
Therefore, life and everything connected with life will be the
manifestations of the interplay of multitude of micro activities operating
simultaneously.
We need to pay attention to all possible micro details
and enable macro solutions through knowledge based social engineering to
reshape and to create sustainable economic structures which are comprehensive,
cooperative and compassionate in nature.
Scope of opportunities must not be ignored by
magnifying and focusing disproportionately only on the following: -
psychologically appealing and social sensational victimhood peddling; poverty
projections; over politicized blame games; selective indifference; ignorance
and under utilization of science and technology; dominating the discourses only
with deficiencies; prioritizing projection of problems without properly
perceiving and providing solutions.
“I
think we risk becoming the best informed society that has ever died of
ignorance”. ~Reuben Blades
However advanced technology may march ahead, still all
species do need a livable planet and natural food to eat.
The purpose of this documentary is to highlight the
necessity of creating a whole lot of long term solutions like better rural
infrastructure and electricity and not mere farmer loans; making farmers
realize the need for updating knowledge about the commerce and economics
of operation; upgrading skill sets with
technology; providing proper soil details and educating the farmer to cultivate
suitably according to the soil; also create artificial small ponds and lakes to
store rain water during monsoon; create warehouses to stock harvested produce;
provide food processing units near fields of cultivation and the necessity to
learn many such positive activities which can benefit in the long run rather
than resorting to desperate short term solutions like taking multiple loans and
borrowings wherein the failure to repay them can have a whole lot of cascading
effects and can lead to depression and all its desperate concomitant social
evils like theft, murder, suicide etc.
We are all part of nature and not apart from it;
agriculture and environment are not issues but they are part of our tissues.
“Society is always
engaged in a vast conspiracy to preserve itself - at the expense of the new
demands of each new generation.” ~John Haynes Holmes
Every profession though may
not be impacted by the vagaries of weather has its own difficulties,
competitions and a hoard of other uncertainties.
Nurses and doctors treating
patients with highly contagious diseases suffer in silence without any special
pension or special insurance for them.
“The
things that are wrong with the country today are the sum total of all the
things that are wrong with us as individuals” ~Charles W. Tobey
Finally, institutionally
implemented intelligent solutions can influence and impact positively the lives
of farmers for which farmers need to
work in a socially integrated way with multiple agencies which can cater to
their short term economic needs and long term prosperity.
They must not repeat the
mistake of resorting to trade unionism type of demonstrations and protests
which may only project their problem and perpetuate it as a business for
certain political outfits and media houses but not fetch any remedy and at
times it may inadvertently also throw up ill informed and biased political and
media heroes.
“When
we think of the past, we forget the fools and remember the sage. We
reverse the process for our own time”. ~George Boas
They must not resort to acts
of depression too.
This unfortunately has been
the syndrome for so many decades but fortunately and gradually it is all changing
with emerging encouraging trends of many youths making good commercially successful ventures in
agriculture integrated with technology, help from financial institutions and
government agencies.
“Most
of the change we think we see in life is due to truths being in and out of
favor” ~Robert Frost, "The Black Cottage," North of Boston, 1914
We need to observe life in its totality, in all its
details with all its facets with intense totality and total intensity and
create an awareness of impact and influence of various solutions available at
micro, meso, macro and meta level of
social structure because suicides and
drug addictions are spreading like a contagious disease and so everyone must be
concerned to prevent it and not contribute to it with greater media
publicity for any mileage because being a contagious disease it can also spread
by any group rendered irrelevant be it paid media persons or otherwise
insignificant and ignored political vultures.
Farming is
All about
Rigorous and
Marvelous work
Earning very little in
Return but helping
Supply food for all.
Financial poverty and illiteracy;
Accompanied
by agricultural
Returns that are
Meager,
Environment that is
Ruined lead them to
Suicides.
I believe in being frank to find solutions to
problems and not seek political mileage or merely sending out a message of
projection of pathetic conditions.
Though I could get a hint that perhaps this
documentary film too- well made with good photography and minimum dialogues
etc- may be encouraged by a slightly leftist ideology of creating over
emphasized version of victimhood.
But these types of sympathy seeking through
victimhood projection depicted by isolating a group -here farmers or
profession-here agriculture are by themselves exposing a collective
vulnerability or inability which can be exploited by politicians of various
hues and colors for their own vote bank and support because they have a
readymade group with unsolved problems.
Therefore, I feel; though the film has been
made with whatever ulterior motive or hidden agenda or meaningful concern, let
us project it positively as a real message which can bring about concrete
solutions to the problems of farmers.
