PURPOSE and MEANING

PURPOSE and MEANING are terms that evolve through what outcomes we want and what trade off we are willing to give to those outcomes and how we relate, react and reap those outcomes.

By relating we mean a ‘mental space time imbued relationship’ with adequate and appropriate reciprocation and not a mere remote wish or dry proposals, projections and promises.

Every relationship is a many faceted splendour and all the facets together contribute to the splendour, whether it is with persons, books, movies, any art, music, culture, tradition, gadgets, environment, vehicles or anything or any activity.

The splendour is revealed depending on what lights we use to see these facets. The bright lights are good attitudes, adjustments, aesthetic appreciation, compromises, collaborations, co-operation, contentment etc. The dark lights are confrontations, control and command mode behaviour patterns, ego generated competing, manipulations, scheming, politicizing, hidden agenda, simmering discontent, lurking suspicions, ulterior motives, ingratitude etc.

Meaning and Purpose - these words have multiple dimensions because of plethora of connotations they have inevitably acquired over the centuries. Those connotations may be implied, intended, inferred, inherent, and inevitable, in context, in relation to something, interpreted, injected, in between the lines, impregnated, internalized meaning, and interactional meaning, infused, and confused and so on.

Besides, the word purpose and meaning have taken multiple prefixes like philosophical, religious, political, economic, scientific, social, cultural, conceptual, idealistic, perceived, predetermined, perverted, acquired, assigned, appropriated and humorous and so on and so forth.

All these go to indicate one thing clearly that these words can be better defined by the context or the situation in which they are used and by the relative experience that a person undergoes living through a maze of confounding edicts, complicated ethics and contaminated environments.

So, they are neither predefined and nor, fortunately, patented and therefore cannot be prescribed as ‘such and such’ with a definite label.

It is so because life itself has too many facets and dimensions and perceived and lived differently by different species at different times and at various places.

Life itself, in all its splendour, may be a glorified colourful bubble too flexible and fragile hanging from a blade of grass or a free flowing fluid creating multitude of bubbles when it gushes forth or a solid rock witnessing multiple bubbles all around.

That’s why human vocabulary constantly gets expanded to express more and more feelings, emotions, new technologies, inventions, imaginations, concepts, discovery of or creation of new substances, space, time, causation and so on as Steven Pinker says, ELBONICS to refer to action of two people manoeuvring for one armrest in a movie theatre or SHOEBURYNESS to refer to the vague uncomfortable feeling you get when sitting on a seat which is still warm from someone else’s bottom.

The purpose of human life is self-advancement and societal betterment, and leaving a legacy with the help of which future generations can achieve their own self-advancement and societal betterment.

So, while we watch life and all its activities swing between dysteleologic dilemmas and hormic hopes can we create acronyms as a mnemonic to remember what we mean by PURPOSE.

Perspective- that we have

Usage – which we put to

Relationship- how we relate

Pertinent – proportionate trade off

Outcome- desired result

Synergizing and

Enhancing life in its totality or in specific realm.

PURPOSE

Utilization of

Resources with

Perspective of

Synergize with situational/ contextual

Exigencies/ relevance.
